Braddock's Grave Gen. Braddock's grave: Quietly it stands, a single marker, a reminder of a quest for empire that took place more than 200 years ago. Fallingwater Fallingwater: One of Frank Lloyd Wright's most inspired and notable works of architecture, Fallingwater was built as a mountain retreat for Pittsburgh retail mogul Edgar J. Kaufmann. Kaufmann asked for a house near the waterfalls on Bear Run, but the design Wright delivered was something else entirely.

The January 2008 issue of Smithsonian magazine names Fallingwater to "The Smithsonian Life List". Because of this, reservations at Fallingwater are expected to be in more demand than usual. Fallingwater is one of two destinations in the US to make the list of 28 around the world divided into seven categories. Fallingwater joins The Louvre in Paris, the Zen Garden of Kyoto and the Uffizi Gallery in Florence in the Triumphs of Vision category. Mount Washington Tavern Mount Washington Tavern: The Mount Washington Tavern was one of many taverns located along the National Road, the first highway built by the Federal government. The Tavern, built about 1828, was in operation during the heyday of the National Road. James and Rebecca Sampey and their family owned and operated this imposing brick and stone building. The Mount Washington Tavern catered to the stagecoach clientele and was serviced by the Good Intent Stagecoach Line.
This tavern owes its name to George Washington, who as a young man fought a battle nearby. He returned 15 years later to initiate the purchase of the land which he owned until his death in 1799. www.nps.gov/archive/fone/mwt.htm
National Road The National Road: The National Road is the most historic transportation corridor in the United States; it is the road that built this nation. The National Road was initially nothing more than a buffalo trace through the wilderness in pre-revolutionary America.
